Porn platforms offer many enjoyable things, but an easy-to-navigate user experience isn't one of them. In recent weeks, several major players in the adult entertainment space have announced plans to roll out AI-led features. Pornhub debuted theirs earlier this month, xHamster says it has a system in the works, and today YouPorn is launching their own version , along with a site redesign and a new logo. The promise of AI is clear: to maximize personalization. And, in turn, it will allow viewers to find videos that are more closely aligned with their interests. While YouPorn is focused for now on finding common threads in their videos. While this does seem likely to improve your experience, this approach does have its limits. There is a huge amount of content on all of these platforms, and scanning it all is a massive undertaking. Yes Pornhub.
And whether or not this one guy actually built the thing he claims to have built doesn’t matter.
This story is just one instance of a wider trend
What happened? A few weeks ago, a Chinese developer based in Germany claimed he built an application that uses facial recognition technology to identify women in online porn by crosschecking it with images on social media. His claim initially went viral on Chinese micro-blogging platform Weibo, to much excitement in the comment thread. The goal is to help others check whether their girlfriends ever acted in those films. She further reports that, according to the original Weibo thread, over terabytes of video data from porn sites such as PornHub and xVideos were matched against profile pictures from Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Weibo, and other social media platforms to identify k porn performers.
XHamster Releases AI Face Recognition xHamster will be the first adult company to offer users a fully functional AI video face recognition, using facial and hair colour recognition technology to find videos featuring their favorite stars. The database features over 1mln videos indexed for searching and 30k performers. Seemed like a lot of bluster for so little to show. Time to drop trough and go head-to-head.
Last week Pornhub announced that it had started implementing machine learning in its service, with an AI that loves nothing more than watching porn and analysing it to identify porn stars. Not wanting to be out done, xHamster has revealed that it too has a porn-addicted AI, and it's totally the best one around. There's a good chance the world will suffer some sort of cataclysmic event due to two rogue AIs going to war. Hopefully these two are too busy watching dirty videos to bother fighting. Just make sure they're kept well away from the comments section. Saying it's the first doesn't seem quite accurate, since Pornhub's AI is already doing its thing. Despite the difference in explanation, I suppose both will have the same eventual outcome. What xHamster's does have, however, is a much bigger database of AI-scanned videos.
